Crimes Nearby: Deliveryman Robbed, Church Burglary Spree and Boardwalk Assault Arrests

A rundown of crimes that occurred in the past week in the areas surrounding the Five Towns.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau, Lynbrook, Long Beach and Rockville Centre police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

A Chinese food deliveryman was robbed in West Hempstead Friday night, police say.

Around 11 p.m., three men approached the victim on Walnut Street, where he was making a food delivery, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops said the subjects took the food and an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot. The Robbery Squad is investigating the case.

Eight youths were arrested in connection with two robberies and assaults on the boardwalk last month, according to a Long Beach Police Department press release on Wednesday. 

According to police, a group of young males on Sept. 17 approached a jogger on the boardwalk near Long Beach Boulevard, grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground, and during the attack his cell phone and a small amount of cash was stolen. The police said the victim suffered minor injuries.

A second robbery on Sept. 19 also involved a jogger on the boardwalk, at Lincoln Boulevard, who was knocked to the ground by a group of young males who kicked and punched him while he was down. During the attack his iPhone was stolen. The jogger suffered an eye injury that threatened his vision and required surgery, a person who knows the victim told Patch.

Girl Robbed of Silver Chain in Valley Stream

A man ripped a silver chain off of an 18-year-old girl’s neck last Monday in Valley Stream, according to police.

Around 11:10 p.m., the male subject was following the female victim while she was walking south on Clearstream Avenue, police said. He approached her on Fir Street, stole the chain and fled on foot east on Fir Street and north on Clearstream Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

The subject is described as a male black in his early twenties, 5-foot-8-inches tall and wearing a black sleeveless shirt and black pants. No further description is available.

Detectives ask that anyone with information regarding this crime should contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Ten antique, solid brass candleholders and candelabras, communion candles and two brass vases were stolen from the alter at in Long Beach last Sunday.
Police said this latest incident is part of a burglary spree at Long Beach houses of worship, where brass and silver items, cash and other valuables were taken in recent months.

Prohibited Sale of Alcoholic Beverage

In response to community complaints, POP Officers conducted an investigation at four local businesses and arrested four individuals on Oct. 5 for selling alcohol to an under-aged agent without asking for proper identification. They arrested Yogeshkumar Patel, of Flushing, at the Lucky Convenience on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, Andre Balley, of St. Albans, at the Getty 4 Corners Food Mart on Linden Boulevard in Elmont, Buyuknisan Cengiz, of Elmont, at the First Petroleum on Linden Boulevard in Elmont, and Leon Bubak, of Valley Stream, at Betsy's Deli and Grocery on Central Court in Valley Stream.
