Crimes Nearby: Fatal Accident, $30K Worth of Sunglasses Stolen

The Fourth Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred in Valley Stream on July 19 at 8 a.m.

According to detectives, a 27-year-old male operating a 2013 International truck was making a left turn to westbound West Merrick Road from South Central Avenue when he struck a 69 year old female. The victim, Suzanne Fairhurst of Valley Stream was crossing South Central Avenue from west to east. She sustained a head injury and was pronounced at the scene by a Nassau County Advanced Medical Technician at 8:10 a.m.

The vehicle was impounded for safety checks and detectives report no apparent criminality at this time.

  • Grand Larceny: At 8 a.m. on July 9, the service manager of Crown Ford, located at 420 Merrick Road in Lynbrook, reported that between at 9:30 p.m. on July 8 and 7 a.m. on July 9, an unknown person(s) removed a 2013 Ford E250 Van from their parking area. The van was located in a parking lot in Valley Stream with a damaged ignition lock and without any tires and rims. The total amount of the loss is $4,000.

  • Lost Property: At 10:30 a.m. on July 9, a complainant reported that while westbound on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook, they noticed that their license plate was missing from the rear of their 2002 Suzuki motorcycle.

  • Criminal Impersonation: At 2:30 p.m. on July 10, a complainant reported that an unknown person(s) used their name, date of birth and identity when receiving two summonses while operating a motor vehicle in Lynbrook on July 21, 2012.

  • Attempted Identity Theft: At 5:45 p.m. on July 10, a complainant reported that an unknown person(s) changed the name and address on their Verizon wireless account.  The complainant was notified by Verizon by text message of the change at which time the complainant notified Verizon that the change was unauthorized.

  • Unusual / Suspicious Incident- At 12:40pm on July 11 the complainant reports that an unknown person(s) did contact their 8 year old daughter, via the internet, while playing the video game “minecraft” on their Playstation game console. The subject, who was aware of the complainant’s daughter’s age, did leave inappropriate comments.

  • Aggravated Harassment: At 11:45 p.m. on July 11, a complainant reported that an unknown person(s) sent several threatening text messages to their cell phone. The messages have put the complainant in fear of their own and their family’s safety.

  • From the Malverne Police Department:

    • On July 5, a Malverne resident from Rider Avenue reported that he noticed a pair of diamond earrings missing that belonged to his wife valued at $5,000. The complainant did not remember when they had seen the earrings last. The report was made for informational purposes at this time.
    • On July 8, a Malverne resident from Park Boulevard reported they had parked their vehicle in the street in front of their house at 4:15 p.m. At 4:45 p.m., they noticed the rear tailgate window was shattered and three black bags were removed. The bags contained Gucci, Chesterfield and Tommy Hilfiger eye glasses and sunglasses valued at $29,319.62. Nassau County's Fourth Precinct is investigating.
