Crimes Nearby: Fed Ex Truck Robbed at Gunpoint

Crimes and arrests making headlines nearby this week.

A Fed Ex delivery driver was tied up by two suspects and robbed at gunpoint of his wallet, cell phone and packages Tuesday morning in Lynbrook, police said. 

At 11:05 a.m. near Sherman Street and Arthur Avenue, the two suspects tied up the driver with zip ties and put him in the back of the truck while they made off with the items, said Lt. Kevin Oveis of the Lynbrook Police Department.

The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. Authorities confirmed Tuesday evening that one subject was armed with a handgun.

Rockville Centre Assault Case Begins

Opening statements began Tuesday in an assault case against five Rockville Centre teens accused of attacking a man who was defending his wife. Matthew Diperna, William Moore, Kevin Coyle, Nolan Kelly, and William Nelson appeared in court Tuesday as prosecutors and defense attorneys began the trial over an incident that continues to shake Rockville Centre over a year later.

Nassau County Police are searching for a man they say robbed an Oceanside Burger King Sunday evening.

Police: Man Attempted to Run Over Cop After Resisting Arrest

Four plain-clothed detectives identified themselves, displayed their shields and approached the vehicle Ali was in. He "violently resisted arrest," cops said, and attempted to flee the scene, crushing an officer between two vehicles.
