Crimes Nearby: Knife Wielding Man Takes Computer, Police Seek Info on Robberies

A rundown of crimes occurring in areas surrounding the Five Towns during the past week.

Man Armed With Knife Steals Laptop

A man in the Green Acres Mall area in Valley Stream was robbed of his Apple Mac laptop on Tuesday and then was threatened with a knife by the perpetrator, police said.

At around 3:53 p.m., the 29-year-old man was sitting outside of Michaela Leather and Fur, located at 1088 Green Acres Mall, when a male black subject snatched the computer. When the victim challenged the subject, the robber took out a kitchen knife and threatened the victim. The subject fled on foot towards the parking lot.

The suspect is described as in his 20’s, about 6 feet tall with a slim build and long hair gathered into a ponytail and wearing a blue shirt, grey pants, black shoes.

Detectives ask that anyone with information regarding this crime should contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls are confidential and all callers will remain anonymous.

Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying the subjects wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred in West Hempstead on Aug. 30.

According to police, at approximately 1:55 a.m., the victims were walking eastbound on Eagle Avenue near Taft Street when they were approached by two black male subjects. The subjects forcibly removed property from the victims.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

Nassau County police are asking for the public's help in identifying three men who robbed and assaulted a man walking on North Village Avenue on July 31.

The victim's stolen credit card was recently used at Village Liquors, and the suspect, who was caught on camera at the liquor store, forged the victim's signature, police said.

According to police, on July 31 at around 2 a.m., a man walking around the area of 10 North Village Ave. was approached by three black men, who were described to be about six feet tall and in their early 20s. Authorities said the victim was punched in the face, causing him to fall, and was then kicked while on the ground. The victim suffered cuts to his face and bruises on his arm and back. Suspects then robbed him and fled the scene.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

Diner Robbed of $700

The owner of Golden Reef Diner, located at 329 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre, reported to police on Sept. 7 that sometime between 2:15 and 5:20 a.m., an unknown person(s) damaged an exterior door and stole approximately $700 from the main cash register and a cabinet behind the register.

Arrests:

  • Ruben I. Canizalez, 32, of Richmond Hill, was arrested on Aug. 31 for an open Nassau County VTL warrant and for VTL violations observed by police personnel while in the vicinity of Sunrise Highway and N. Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre.
  • Karl W. Adams, 47, of Hempstead, was arrested on Sept. 1 for aggravated unlicensed operation and VTL violations following an investigation by police personnel on Canterbury Road in Rockville Centre.
  • George Armstrong, 19, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Sept. 3 for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, and an open warrant for second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia following a police investigation at Rockville Centre Lanes, located at 100 Maple Ave. in Rockville Centre.
  • Charles Pena, 43, of East Elmhurst, was arrested on Sept. 3 and charged with driving while intoxicated and VTL violations after being observed operating a motor vehicle on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
