Crimes Nearby: Lynbrook Man Charged With Rape After Home Invasion

A rundown of arrests and incidents that occurred in the past week in areas surrounding the Five Towns.

The located at 611 Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead was robbed Thursday evening.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 5:10 p.m., the suspect entered the bank and presented a robbery demand note to a teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of cash, the subject fled the bank on foot heading eastbound toward Nassau Boulevard.

During the robbery there were seven employees and one customer present, police said. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The suspect is described as a black male, 40-50 years old, approximately 6 foot 2 inches, wearing a gray puffy jacket, a red and white Yankees baseball cap and silver rimmed glasses.

Police said that a similar robbery involving a suspect fitting the same description took place at the TD Bank located at 252 Peninsula Blvd. in Hempstead just 30 minutes prior to the West Hempstead robbery.

A Malverne resident living on Foster Avenue stepped outside his home Tuesday morning to find one of his vehicles parked in the driveway but resting on cinder blocks, its tires and rims gone, stolen by thieves while he slept.

This has become a common sighting throughout Nassau County's Fifth Precinct, withreported in West Hempstead, Lakeview, Franklin Square, Elmont, Valley Stream and Garden City South throughout 2011.

, a similar incident occurred at another home in Malverne on Norwood Avenue. In both cases the thieves' targets were Nissan Maximas.

A Lynbrook man has been arrested and charged with rape after a violent home invasion and robbery in Hempstead last Sunday night.

Wiseallah Hightower-Castro, 24, of Lynbrook, was arrested several days after his alleged participation in the Jan. 8 incident.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 11 p.m., a 22-year-old male victim went to visit his 47-year-old mother at her home on Grove Street in Hempstead. Also present at the time was a 44-year-old woman. Three subjects then pushed their way into the apartment.

The victim’s pockets were then searched by the suspects who removed three cell phones and an unknown amount of cash, police said. The first and second suspect then took the 44-year-old woman into the bathroom and sexually assaulted her.

Two 50-year-old women who were in the house and a 49-year-old woman who arrived at the house were ordered to lie on the floor and were robbed. One of the 50-year-olds suffered a seizure.

According to police, the 47-year-old woman managed to escape by jumping out a window. She ran to a neighbor’s house and notified police. Realizing one of the victims was not in the house, all three subjects entered a black four-door vehicle parked on Grove Street and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The 44-, 47- and 50-year-old female victims were removed to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A Lynbrook man struck by a 2003 Ford Explorer on Peninsula Blvd. in Lynbrook on New Year’s Day was seriously injured and is recovering at South Nassau Hospital.

Lynbrook police said that the 42-year-old man was hit by the Ford Explorer on Peninsula between Earle Ave. and Vincent Ave, on Sunday, Jan. 1.

The Ford was being driven by a 56-year-old man from East Meadow. Police said the driver remained at the scene and the incident was ruled an accident.
