Crimes Nearby: Man Allegedly Assaults Officers, Bank Robber Photo Released

A rundown of incidents that occurred during the past week in areas surrounding the Five Towns.

A West Hempstead man was arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting police officers outside of the located at 814 Hempstead Ave.

According to Nassau County detectives, Fifth Precinct officers responded to the CVS for the report of a suspicious person. A 34-year-old male employee of the store had recognized the defendant, Laroy Floyd, 50, from a prior shoplifting occurrence at the store.

When the employee advised the defendant to leave the premises Floyd threatened him with a walking stick he was carrying, police said. The defendant fled the scene on foot but was located a short time later by responding officers at Hempstead Avenue and Eagle Avenue.

According to police, as the officers attempted to secure the stick, Floyd resisted and swung the stick striking an officer in the face. A struggle ensued and Floyd was eventually placed into custody.

Nassau County Police are still searching for the man who on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead on Nov. 14.

According to police, just eight days later on Nov. 22, the same man robbed the Roslyn Savings Bank on S. Main Street in Freeport.

The suspect approached teller, passed a demand note and used verbal demands, police said. The suspect also used the threat of a gun in his note and verbally.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, clean-shaven, approximately 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with dark skin, a black hat and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Police are asking anyone with information on the robberies to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477) or Nassau County’s Robbery Squad at 516-573-8044. All callers will remain anonymous.

At 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 19, an approximately 30-year-old white male, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds with a thin build, short black hair and blue eyes wearing black jeans, a blue button down shirt and black jacket operating a newer model black Ford Mustang, pulled up to located at 659 Sunrise Hwy in Lynbrook.

The male started to wave and motion to an 11-year-old boy who was sitting at a table by the front window. The 11-year-old boy did not respond to the man and remained seated. The man then entered the store an ordered a cup of coffee and while exiting the store stopped and said hello to the 11-year-old boy and told him that he knew him. The male then exited the store and left the scene.
