Crimes Nearby: Man Allegedly Had Drugs, Gun; Five Arrested for Assault and Robbery

A rundown of incidents that occurred in the areas surrounding the Five Towns.

The following information was supplied by the Long Beach, Lynbrook, Nassau and Rockville Centre police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

A Lynbrook man was arrested by New York State Police Sunday night after allegedly providing a BAC of .19 percent and being found with a loaded shotgun.

According to state police, at 11:44 p.m., a state trooper stopped a black Jeep Cherokee for making an illegal U-turn on Old Country Road in Westbury on the Wantagh Parkway overpass. While interviewing the vehicle's operator, Brian Stephens, 34, of Lynbrook, the trooper observed signs of intoxication.

A search of the Jeep resulted in the recovery of more than 400 Valium and other assorted pills and a small amount of marijuana, police said. A loaded 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition was also found in the trunk.

Five men were arrested in Lynbrook following an alleged assault and robbery last Friday morning in Island Park.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 2:30 a.m. a 20-year-old male victim was walking northbound on Pettit Place at Waterfront Boulevard when an approaching Ford Expedition with five men inside yelled out to offer him a ride.

The victim approached the open door to enter the vehicle, police said, and one of the defendants removed the victim’s cell phone from his pocket. As the victim began demanding his phone be returned, another one of the men in the Expedition began punching the victim in the face, causing a broken nose, contusions and lacerations.

The following defendants were arrested for two counts of robbery in the second degree and assault in the second degree:

  • Jean F. Jean-Bart, 27, Elmont
  • Christopher W. Whitfield, 23, of Jamaica
  • Genevra Dommermuth, 21, of Elmont
  • Corey U. Johnson, 25, of the Bronx.

In addition to the above listed charges, Christopher G. Young, 22, of Queens Village, is charged with false impersonation.

Arrests

  • Howard A. Walter, 71, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 2 and charged with second-degree criminal contempt for violating an order of protection against a neighbor on June 18.
  • Anthony P. Femminello, 68, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 6 for third degree menacing following an investigation at his residence.
  • Lauren Buckley, 18, and Emily Buckley, 18, both of Lynbrook, were arrested on Aug. 13 and charged with unlawful dealing with a child for providing alcohol to minors at a residence in Lynbrook.
  • Joseph Eye, 34, of Long Beach was arrested on Aug. 11 and charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated after failing to stop at a stop sign and illegal signaling at Riverside Boulevard and East Walnut Street.
  • Gerard Solis, 30, of Long Beach was arrested on Aug. 12 and charged with third-degree burglary for stealing from poor boxes at a church at East Market Street.    
  • Thomas Schwantner, 66, of Long Beach was arrested on Aug. 12 and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction, driving without an interlock device and driving through a red light at Roosevelt Boulevard and East Walnut Street.
  • Brent Mallon, 26, of Wantagh was arrested on Aug. 13 and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a preliminary breath test at West Park Avenue and Laurelton Boulevard.
  • Joseph Patterson, 22, of Long Beach was arrested on Aug. 14 and charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding at West Beech Street and Delaware Avenue.
