Crimes Nearby: Man Gets Prison Time for Apple Scheme

A stock trader from Rockville Centre has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his scheme to profit from the purchase of over a million shares of stock in Apple, which drove his employer out of business.

David Miller, 41, was also sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford to three years of supervised release after his release from prison, to spend the first six months of his supervised release in home confinement and to perform 200 hours of community service. Cops: Inwood Man Stole Cooking Fuel in Cedarhurst

An Inwood man was arrested early Monday for allegedly stealing fuel cans from a Cedarhurst eatery, police said.

Burglary Detail Leads to Major Arrest

A burglary detail in Garden City to help determine a recent pattern of break-ins and attempted break-ins has led to an arrest, Garden City police said.

An investigation by village police, along with the Hempstead Police Department and the Nassau County Police Department Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team, revealed that a vehicle stolen during an Osborne Road burglary was located on Peters Avenue in Hempstead. Click here to read the full story.

Cops Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run

A 39-year-old man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing a street in Hempstead early Sunday morning, police said. 

The man was crossing Fulton Avenue near Bennett Avenue when he was struck by a 2000 black BMW, with NY registration number GEU3305, traveling west on Peninsula Boulevard, according to police. Woman Busted for Illegal Massages

A Queens woman was arrested Friday after she allegedly performed illegal massages on two undercover officers in East Meadow.

According to police, on Friday at 3:35 p.m., the undercover operation was conducted at 544 East Meadow Ave. The defendant, Caimin Dong, 52, of Flushing, performed an unlicensed massage on two detectives for money, cops said. In addition, she allegedly offered to perform a sex act for money.Click here to read the full story.

State Police have charged a Glen Head woman under "Leandra's Law" after stopping her on the Southern State Parkway with two children in the car.
