A rundown of incidents that occurred in the past weeks in areas surrounding the Five Towns.

Man Drives Into Police Vehicles, Injures Officers

Police are searching for a man who last Monday struck two cars on a Valley Stream street with a 2009 BMW and then hit two police vehicles.

At 4:08 a.m. on April 9, the suspect — described as black, about 180 pounds, 20 years old and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt — was driving the gray colored vehicle, NY registration FPL5884, at a high rate of speed on Central Avenue in Valley Stream, police said. Officers watched him as he turned on Fendwood Drive and hit two legally parked cars. He did not stop to identity himself.

The suspect then continued on to Salem Road and Wells Road when police say he intentionally struck a marked radio motor patrol vehicle. He then continued on to Arkansas and Wellsboro Road where he again hit another marked radio motor patrol vehicle. 

The suspect then got out of the car and fled into nearby rear yards.

Two police officers in the second vehicle sustained shoulder, back and knee injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A 16-year-old driver was killed early Wednesday morning on the Southern State Parkway after striking a tree on the side of the road.

According to New York State Police, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Nasir Rivera, 16, of Elmont, was operating a 1998 Acura westbound on the Southern State Parkway just west of exit 18 when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree.

Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Shoplifting at Lynbrook Rite Aide

The manager of  at 400 Sunrise Highway reported to police that on April 2, two males entered the store and started to remove merchandise from the shelves and place it inside their jackets. One of the males, when stopped by the manager, dropped all of his items and left the store in an unknown direction. The second male then left the store in an unknown direction. The second man removed $322.89 worth of merchandise from the store. The suspects were described as dark skinned and wearing dark-colored hoodies.
