Crimes Nearby: Teen is Pistol-Whipped, DWI and 5 Pounds of Pot

A rundown of crimes that occurred in areas surrounding the Five Towns during the past week.

A teen walking along Chestnut Street in West Hempstead Monday night was pistol-whipped during an attempted armed robbery, police said.

Nassau County Police are searching for four men who they say approached the 18-year-old male victim around 11:50 p.m. on Aug. 5 and ordered him to empty his pockets. One of the subjects had a handgun, detectives said, and when the victim replied that he had nothing, the perpetrator struck him on the head with the weapon, causing a laceration to his head. They then left the scene on foot in an unknown direction with no proceeds.

Cops describe the men as black, and said one was wearing a baseball hat and a light-colored zip-up sweater with a collar Monday night. No further description is available.

A West Hempstead woman was charged with DWI after she allegedly lost control of her car while driving on the Southern State Parkway Tuesday morning.

A New York State Trooper was dispatched to the eastbound side of the parkway near Exit 15 around 5 a.m. on Sept. 6, where he observed a white Mercedes Benz off into the woods.

The driver, Yuri Ayala, 22, of West Hempstead, was not injured, but according to the trooper, her eyes were bloodshot and watery, and she swayed while standing outside of her vehicle as he interviewed her. Police said the defendant produced a positive breath sample of .16 percent BAC and was charged with DWI and traffic violations.

Arrests:

  • Junior R. Suriel, 27, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 25 regarding an open case for an incident that reportedly occurred in the Nassau County Fifth Precinct.
  • Gregory Flagg, 25, of Lakeview, was arrested on Aug. 26 for disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of 324 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
  • Bryant S. Bethea, 22, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 29 for petit larceny following a police investigation at CVS, located at 155 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
  • Bradley Vercosa, 19, of Valley Stream, was arrested on Aug. 31 on Merrick Road and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Russell Moskowitz, 44, of Long Beach was arrested on Sept. 4 and charged with driving while intoxicated at East Park Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard.
  • Dominick Morda, 32, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Sept. 5 on Sunrise Hwy and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
