Crimes Nearby: Two Suspects Rob West Hempstead Store at Gunpoint

Suspects still at large after Friday evening robbery at Fortune Smoke Stax.

Two suspects are at large after robbing a West Hempstead smoke shop at gunpoint Friday evening.

According to Nassau County detectives, shortly after 6 p.m., two white male suspects entered Fortune Smoke Stax, located 485 Hempstead Turnpike, approached the store employee, produced a small black handgun and demanded money from the cash registers.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, both suspects fled the store southbound on S. Cherry Valley Avenue, police said. The store clerk was uninjured during the robbery.

The clerk described the first suspect to be approximately 5-foot-8 tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black-hooded jacket, black mask, knit gloves and was armed with a small black handgun.

The second suspect was described to be approximately 5-foot-4 tall with a heavy set build. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket and also wore a black mask.

Detectives request that anyone with information regarding this robbery should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
