Fall Victim Airlifted to Hospital; Duck Hunters Surprised by Rescue Squad

A man making repairs to the Tiger Schulmann’s Karate Center in Cedarhurst was airlifted by the Nassau County Bay Bureau on Monday after falling six feet off the building's scaffolding, according to the .
“The man lost consciousness, however, there were no serious injuries,” said Joseph C. Sperber, first assistant chief at the LCFD.
Due to his location, the man was transported by helicopter around noon to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was treated for a minor head injury.

“An ambulance could take 30 minutes, where a helicopter takes five minutes to respond, and another five to 10 to get to the hospital,” Sperber explained.
Meanwhile, three men on a duck hunting boat trip near the on Bannister Creek were surprised when they were met by a helicopter and multiple rescue squads Monday morning after a concerned caller noticed their boat heading east of the Atlantic Beach Bridge with no other boats in sight, according to Sperber.

“The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department was the primary respondents to the call,” he said. “We requested assistance from the , Long Beach Fire Department and Nassau County Bay Bureau to help locate the boat.”
Sperber added, “The caller had good intentions, but it was just duck hunters.”
