Fire Breaks Out at DRS School in Woodmere

A fire broke out from the air conditioning units Saturday at Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School in Woodmere.

The Woodmere Fire Department was alerted to a fire alarm at the school, located at 700 Ibsen St., at about 1:20 p.m., according to Chief Leonard Cherson. Firefighters discovered a smoke condition in one of the rooms on the second floor that was emanating from the air conditioning units on the roof. Woodmere Fire Department personnel then extinguished the fire and disconnected all power to the units, Cherson said.

The Hewlett, Inwood and Lawrence-Cedarhurst fire departments also responded to the scene with additional manpower to search the entire facility for any fire. Fire operations were finished by 2:30 p.m.

There was moderate damage to the building on the second floor as well as damage to the air conditioning units, Cherson said.

No injuries were reported.
