Firefighters Battle Inwood House Fire

Inwood firefighters battled a blaze at a Mervin Street home on Thursday that then spread to a neighbor’s house.

At about 1:30 p.m., the Inwood Fire Department was alerted to the fire at 17 Mervin St., according to fire officials. Firefighters were faced with a heavy fire condition on the second floor of the home upon arrival.

Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack on the fire. As they fought the blaze, the fire spread to a neighboring home. The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes.

Assistant Chief Dominick Andreno requested additional resources from the Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Hewlett and Long Beach Fire Departments.  

One civilian was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The Nassau County Fire Marshal was called in to investigate.
