Firefighters Injured Fighting N. Woodmere Blaze

Two Hewlett firefighters were treated for burns after fighting a blaze Wednesday morning that devastated a North Woodmere home.

A call for the fire at 812 Plainfield Ln. came in around 5:12 a.m., according to fire officials. Hewlett Fire Department members were greeted by heavy fire upon arrival at the scene. The homeowner, an elderly woman, was able to get out of the house before firefighters arrived.

Hewlett firefighters, assisted by members of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Valley Stream, Woodmere and Inwood fire departments, got the fire under control in under an hour. Firefighters remained on the scene until 7 a.m. All operations were under the command of Hewlett Chief John Carlo.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.
