UPDATE: Firefighters Seriously Injured at Training Facility in North Woodmere

Four firefighters were injured after a collision at the training facility.

Update

According to Nassau County detectives, the Elmont Fire Department drill team was conducting a training session using a drill team truck at the North Woodmere Fire Training Facility at the time of the accident.

During the drill, four members of the drill team were on the rear step of the truck holding onto a grip bar, police said. During the course of the drill the truck veered to the left and struck a wooden guard rail.

According to police, the impact of the collision sent two male firefighters, a 23-year-old and a 25-year-old over the guardrail. The 23-year-old victim sustained abrasions, contusions and a neck injury. The 25-year-old also suffered abrasions and contusions to his body.

The two other male firefighters, ages 20 and 26, were thrown onto the roadway, police said. The 20-year-old male suffered a chest injury, as well as abrasions and contusions. The 26-year-old male suffered a serious head injury, as well as multiple abrasions and contusions to his body.

According to police, all four victims were transported to local hospitals. Police did not release any further details on the current condition of the injured firefighters.

The male driver of the truck was uninjured and police said the vehicle was impounded for safety check. The investigation is ongoing.

Four firefighters were injured while doing training exercises at the North Woodmere Park Fire Training Facility Tuesday night, according to Nassau County Police.

Two of the firefighters suffered serious injuries, according to a preliminary police report. The firefighters suffered injuries to their heads, chests and faces, and were taken to the hospital. No further details are available at this time.

There were numerous Elmont Fire Department vehicles at the scene, which is attached to , as well as Nassau County police detectives. What looked like wreckage could be seen from behind police tape.
