Five Towns Firefighters Assist at North Shore Brush Fire

Five Towns firefighters assisted North Shore first responders this past weekend as they battled a brush fire that erupted in Kings Point.

“The stubborn blaze continued to burn several acres of hard to reach land,” said Anthony Rivelli, assistant chief of Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department. “As the day went on, volunteer firefighters needed rehab and had to be relieved to go to work. The terrain and inaccessibility from the road made the fire difficult to fight. The lack of precipitation and dry brush added to fuel the blaze.”

Along with LCFD, crews from Meadowmere Park and Hewlett assisted in the Great Neck Alert Fire Company’s battle. Other volunteers from both Suffolk and Nassau County rotated around the clock to keep the blaze contained. An ambulance from Woodmere stood by at the scene in the event of any injuries. However, no serious injuries were sustained in battling the blaze.
