Fourth Precinct Report: Arrests, DWIs and Other Crimes

Police report incidents which took place from Nov. 11 to Nov. 24 in the Five Towns.

Arrests

  • Rosa Gomez, 23, of Far Rockaway, was arrested and charged with grand larceny on Aug. 31. An internal investigation conducted by Stop & Shop in Inwood, located at 603 Burnside Ave., where the defendant worked as a cashier, allegedly revealed that Gomez falsified business records and made fraudulent returns for cash in the amount of $2,600.
  • Winston Daley 65, of North Lawrence, was arrested and charged with menacing on Nov. 13 in North Lawrence. Daley, who rented an upstairs apartment at the alleged victim's residence, apparently became agitated, screamed, cursed and threatened the victim with a knife.
  • Clifford Schaefer, 49, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property on Nov. 16 on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence.
  • Nicole Cunningham (also known as Nichole Frank) was arrested and charged with grand larceny on May 7 in Inwood. Cunningham allegedly made 40 unauthorized withdrawals from the bank account of her ex-boyfriend's mother.
  • Ervin Jones 22, of Far Rockaway, and James Nance 21, of Far Rockaway, were arrested and charged with grand larceny on Nov. 16 in Lawrence. The pair was allegedly found to be in the possession of assorted properties, such as a woman's pocketbook, an iPod, headphones, sunglasses and clothing items stolen from autos.
  • Wayne Spruill, 27, of Southwick, Ma., was arrested and charged with vehicle traffic law violations on Nov. 12 at Peninsula and Branch boulevards in Woodmere. Spruill allegedly traveled in a 2001 Nissan Maxima at a high rate of speed and failed to secure his 22-month-old baby in a child safety seat.
  • Yosef Liebowitz, 22, of Woodmere, was arrested and charged on Nov. 18 for possession of forgery instruments, which occurred on June 10.

DWI

  • Raquel Herrera, 25, of North Woodmere, was arrested and charged for DWI on Nov. 13 in Lido Beach with a BAC of .15 percent.Herrera was allegedly traveling in a 2007 Mercedes intoxicated at a high rate of speed and in an erratic manner.
  • Harry Schmidt, 60, of Valley Stream, was arrested and charged with assault and DWI on Nov. 19 in Cedarhurst with a BAC of .17 percent. Schmidt was allegedly operating his 2004 Nissan intoxicated and struck the rear of a 2006 Cadillac. The driver of the Cadillac needed to be transported to SNCH for medical treatment, police said.

Burglary

  • Tanias Fish and Chips and Variety, located at 250 Lawrence Ave. in N. Lawrence, reported to police on Nov. 14 that an unknown person took $400 from arcade machines located at the store.
  • The owner of GT Transmissions, located at 683 Burnside Ave. in North Lawrence, reported to police on Nov. 22 that an unknown person took the passenger's side mirrors of a 2008 Saturn, 2005 Lincoln and 2002 Nissan Altima that were parked on the street and belonged to customers.
  • An unknown person or persons scratched the paint across a vehicle parked on Bayview Avenue in Inwood on Nov. 10.

Criminal Mischief to Building

  • An unknown suspect rearranged the letters of the sign at Community Bible Church, located at 340 Doughty Blvd. In Inwood, and in the process broke some of the letters, police reported on Nov. 20.

Criminal Trespass

  • The ex-boyfriend of the complainant's daughter, who had stayed in the complainant's unattached Cedarhurst garage for a while, recently showed up at the residence even though he was told to stay away from the property, police reported on Nov. 22.

 Larceny – Auto

  • The complainant's 2006 Acura, which had been parked in the rear of a Cedarhurst residence, was taken by an unknown suspect, police said on Nov. 13.
  • The complainant, who is the manager of Hertz Rental Car, located 696 Burnside Ave. in Inwood, reported to police on Nov. 22 that a 24-year-old suspect never returned a rented 2009 Hyundai Sonata and did not answer phone calls or letters sent to her address.
  • The complainant's 2010 Honda Civic was taken on Nov. 19 by an unknown suspect in Inwood.

Larceny – Grand

  • A North Woodmere victim reported to police on Nov. 15 that an unknown person took all four tires and rims from her 2009 Toyota.
  • An unknown suspect entered the National Grid yard in Hewlett by cutting two locks and removed assorted tools and building supplies, police reported on Nov. 12.
  • A touch-screen computer was taken from a locked storage closet in Lawrence High School's Performing Arts Center, police said on Oct. 6.
  • A Lawrence complainant told police on Nov. 16 that after selling a Rolex men's watch to a suspect via the internet, he received a fraudulent check.
  • A Lawrence complainant told police on Nov. 18 that an unknown person took assorted jewelry from the place of occurrence.
  • Upon returning home on Nov. 16, a Woodmere complainant found the door of her prayer room pried open and assorted jewelry was missing.
  • An unknown suspect on Nov. 18 removed a camera, GPS unit and other belongings from the complainant's 2009 Lexus that was parked in a Lawrence driveway.
  • A complainant told police on Nov. 19 that her pocketbook, which was placed on a shelf in Five Towns Wine & Liquor, located at 601 Burnside Ave. in Inwood, was taken from the store.

The people named in this report are accused of crimes by the police. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
