Man Gets 25 to Life for Fatal Shooting

Far Rockaway man shot and killed a father, wounded a grandmother in 2012.

A Far Rockaway man received the maximum sentence for a 2012 shooting of an Elmont father and grandmother, reported the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

Wilfred Labossiere, 33, of Far Rockaway, was ordered to spend 25 years to life in prison Monday after being convicted in March. A jury deliberated for eight hours and found him guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Labossiere was charged on Nov. 26, 2012 in connection with a shooting in Elmont that left a 29-year-old father dead and a 51-year-old grandmother seriously injured.

The shooting was reportedly sparked by an argument between Labossiere and victim Christopher Mullings, whose son had been babysitting Labossiere's son.

At the house, he got into a dispute with Mullings, whose son, Dwight Leach, 24, had been baby-sitting Labossiere's 3-year-old son there. As Mullings and Labossiere argued, Leach hit the video button on his iPhone and recorded the dispute, which spilled out of the house.

Outside, Labossiere pulled a semi-automatic pistol from his jacket and fired three times before the gun jammed. Mullings was hit twice, once in the head, and the third bullet hit Leach's godmother, Sandra Clarke, the child's maternal grandmother. She was hospitalized but survived.

"While nothing can undo the pain and loss caused by Mr. Labossiere and his violent act, today's sentence ensures that he'll be paying for his DA Kathleen Rice said after his conviction.
