N. Woodmere Man Dies After Being Hit by Train

Victim reportedly died at Stamford Hospital after being struck by Metro-North train in Greenwich.

A man who died after being struck by an empty Metro-North train Wednesday night in Greenwich has been identified as a 21-year-old from North Woodmere, according to a Metro-North spokeswoman.

The victim was identified as Alexander Bertrand, of Lawrence Court, a 2009 Hewlett High School graduate.

Officials said the cause of the accident — which occurred at about 7 p.m. on Oct. 17 — is under investigation.

Bertrand was struck by the train a short distance from the railroad overpass on Davis Avenue, near Bruce Park Place. He was taken to Stamford Hospital by Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS) where he died a short time later.
