Valley Stream man charged with manslaughter after Wednesday night accident.

A Valley Stream man was arrested and charged with manslaughter Wednesday night after allegedly killing a Franklin Square man in a car accident near the Malverne border.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 9:15 p.m., Brian P. Daly, 24, was operating his 2008 Lincoln southbound on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square at a high rate of speed. Daly passed a red traffic signal light and struck a 2003 Ford that was traveling east on Corona Avenue.

Daly’s vehicle then redirected itself into northbound traffic and collided with a 2010 Subaru that was stopped for a red traffic light on Franklin Avenue at Corona Avenue, police said. The operator of the Subaru was uninjured and refused medical treatment.

The operator of the Ford, Christopher Decrescito, 46, of Franklin Square, was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased at 9:57 p.m. by a staff physician, police said.

Daly was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported to a nearby hospital for injuries to his right hip and right arm, police said. All vehicles were impounded for safety inspections. The investigation is ongoing.

Daly is charged with manslaughter in the second degree, vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.
