The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department on Friday at 9:20 a.m. responded to a fuel tanker spill onto westbound Peninsula Boulevard between Oxford Road and Rockaway Turnpike in Cedarhurst.

The truck spilled about 15 gallons of home heating fuel onto the road, which was closed at Oxford Road until the fluids could be cleaned up. The truck was inspected by the Nassau County Fire Marshal hazardous materials team and deemed safe to operate.

Apparently, the nozzle of the tanker accidentally engaged in the open position while the truck was moving, spilling the product onto the ground. It was noticed in a timely fashion and only a small amount spilled onto the roadway. Traffic resumed its normal pattern in an hour.
