Police: Atlantic Beach Man Robs Victim at Gunpoint in Own Home

Victim was supposed to buy a motorcycle from the suspect.

An Atlantic Beach man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly robbing a man in his own home after the victim was supposed to purchase a motorcycle from the defendant.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 4:30 p.m., a 28-year-old male victim went to the home of the defendant, Rory Watkins, to purchase a motorcycle.

Once inside, Watkins, 29, pulled out a black handgun and demanded money from the victim, police said. The victim handed over cash and a prescription bottle of Oxycodone pills from his pocket.

The victim ran out of the house and notified the police. Fourth Precinct police responded to Watkins' home and upon investigation and consent to search the home police were able to recover the victim’s proceeds and a black handgun, shotgun and rifle, police said. Diazepam pills were also recovered from the scene.

Watkins was placed into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.

Watkins is charged with robbery in the first degree, criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous weapon in the fourth degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
