Police: Man Stole Cross, Chain from Inwood Church

Defendant apparently seen wearing it on Sunday, police said.

An Inwood man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly stole a gold cross and chain from a statue at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, according to police.

Police said that on Friday at 11 a.m., David Campbell, 33, took the gold cross and chain off a statue at the Wanser Avenue church, police said. On Sunday, a complainant apparently saw the defendant wearing the chain and cross and called the police.

After an investigation, officers placed Campbell under arrest without incident. He is charged with one count of grand larceny and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
