Police: Stranger Approaches Two Children in Lawrence Area

Two children were approached by a stranger in the same vehicle in Lawrence and North Lawrence on two separate nights, police said.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday, May 21, at about 8 a.m., when a 12-year-old boy was at Central Avenue and Doughty Boulevard, according to police. The boy was then approached by an unknown male black subject in his 50s driving a four door red Mercedes Benz. The man asked the victim if he needed a ride, to which the boy replied no. The subject then drove off.

Then on Thursday, May 23, at about 7:56 a.m., a 12-year-old girl was waiting for a bus on Pacific Avenue when an unknown male black subject with dreadlocks and an accent came up to her in a four door red Mercedes Benz with a child seat in the rear of the vehicle. The man asked the girl if she needed a ride, but when another vehicle approached the subject’s vehicle, the man fled the scene.

There is no further description of the subject and no injuries were reported.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
