Police: Woodmere Man, 86, Dies in House Fire

50 firefighters were on the scene to extinguish a blaze that destroyed a Dartmouth Lane home.

An 86-year-old man died on Thursday after his Woodmere home was severely damaged in a blaze, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Sidney Bienenfeld's Dartmouth Lane home caught on fire around 4:15 in the morning, police said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Fifty firefighters from the Hewlett Fire Department responded to the blaze, with one firefighter treated and released from a hospital after suffering shortness of breath.

Hewlett Fire Department Chief Evan Kohn, the Nassau County fire marshal, Fourth Squad detectives, Red Cross members and Town of Hempstead building inspectors were also on the scene, police said.
