Queens Man Arrested After Chase in Cedarhurst

Defendant found in car stolen from a Lawrence residence.

A Queens man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly leading police on a foot chase through Cedarhurst.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 4:50 a.m., Fourth Precinct police officers observed Jonathan Kennedy, 25, of Far Rockaway, operating a 2008 Honda westbound on West Broadway in the vicinity of Prospect Avenue committing numerous violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

After officers stopped the vehicle, Kennedy fled the scene on foot, police said. A foot chase ensued and Kennedy was apprehended on Prospect Avenue.

An investigation determined the vehicle was reported stolen from a Lawrence residence on June 11, police said. Kennedy was also in possession of a backpack which contained numerous stolen items including electronics, credit cards and wallets.

Kennedy was charged with five counts of criminal possession of stolen property and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
