School Bus Involved in Accident in Woodmere

Some children brought to the hospital after crash.

Four young children were transported to the hospital on Wednesday after their school bus collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Central Avenue and Woodmere Boulevard, according to the chief of the .

The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. The bus was carrying 34 people at the time of the crash.

Firefighters treated the children on the bus, who were all under the age of 10, according to Chief Richard Jankosky. Due to the age of the children, Jankosky could not share the extent of the transported children’s injuries.

Some of the children on the bus were released into their parents’ custody, he said.

The driver of the other vehicle had an injured leg and was treated at the scene after refusing medical transport.

Nassau County police officers secured the scene and are investigating the accident.

The Woodmere Fire Department was assisted by the Valley Stream, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Hewlett fire departments, all of which sent ambulances to treat and transport the aided.
