Staten Island Man Arrested For Armed Robbery in Inwood

The man allegedly pulled a gun out on a 67-year-old woman.

A Staten Island man was arrested for an armed robbery in Inwood Friday.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 2:30 p.m., a 67-year-old woman was waiting for a bus at Henry Street and Wanser Avenue when she was approached by the defendant, Jesse J. Melville.

Melville, 27, lifted his shirt, revealing a handgun, and demanded money from the woman, police said. He then grabbed the woman's pocketbook containing money and other personal property and fled east on Wanser Avenue. The woman called police and a responding patrol officer from the Fourth Precinct was able to apprehend Melville on Doughty Boulevard and Redfern Avenue.

According to police, during the course of the investigation, the officer was able to recover the handgun from Melville.

No injuries were reported.

Melville is charged with robbery in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
