Suspect Attempts to Rob Man at Knifepoint in Cedarhurst

Victim was able to run away without giving up his belongings.

A suspect armed with a knife attempted to mug a man walking down a Cedarhurst street Tuesday evening, but the victim was able to escape without giving up his belongings, police said.

At 7 p.m. on Dec. 11, the 35-year-old victim was walking eastbound on Pearsall Avenue, near Washington Avenue, when he was approached from behind by the male black suspect, according to police. The suspect — described to be between 20 to 22 years old, about 5 foot 3 inches, 150 pounds and wearing a green sweatshirt and blue jeans — took out a 6 to 8 inch knife and demanded the victim’s money and phone. The victim refused and ran westbound toward Rockaway Turnpike, where he lost sight of the suspect. No injuries were reported.

Detectives ask that anyone with information about this crime should contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
