Two Pedestrians Struck Hours Apart

Both victims were taken to hospitals for injuries.

A vehicle struck a man crossing Broadway in Lawrence just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, according to fire officials.

The middle-aged man was seriously injured and found in the intersection at Rosalind Place. Passing motorists, including a doctor, stopped to render aid until rescue crews arrived. The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department responded along with an NCPD Ambulance.

The medics treated the man and packaged him for transport. Due to the severity of injuries, he was taken to the trauma center at Jamaica Hospital in Queens. Broadway remained closed for some time afterward as detectives investigated the accident.

A short time later, another pedestrian was struck as the result of an accident at Broadway and Franklin Avenue in Hewlett. The Hewlett Fire Department responded along with EMTs from Hatzolah. That pedestrian was taken to a local hospital for observation.
