VIDEO: Nassau County Auxiliary Police Graduates Class

A look at what the auxiliary police do and the latest members to join their ranks.

Nassau County graduated 30 auxiliary police officers Monday night after they completed basic training at the Police Academy.

These volunteers assist the Nassau County Police Department during special events such as parades, festivals and emergencies during severe weather.

The Five Towns graduates, who are part of Unit 109, are Cinta Garcia of Inwood, Chaim Sandler of Cedarhurst and North Woodmere's Mohamed Husein. The 22-member unit also expects 10 more applicants to join by the end of the year.

"It's an honor and a privilege to have these officers in the unit," said Lt. Danny Gluck, commanding officer of Unit 109 and an 11-year volunteer. "They will not only be an asset to the unit, but to the entire community. As our unit grows, we'll be able to patrol and protect the area on a larger scale."
