69-year-old airlifted to hospital for multiple injuries.

A 69-year-old woman was struck by a pickup truck in Hewlett on Wednesday and was airlifted to the hospital, police said.

At about 12:48 p.m., the woman, from Woodmere, was walking on the sidewalk at the entrance of the parking lot of 1319 Broadway when she was hit by a 1996 Dodge Pickup driven by a 46-year-old West Hempstead man and pinned under the vehicle, according to police.

The woman was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of multiple compound fractures, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks. Police said there is no apparent criminality at this time.

I was at the hospital for my relative when I saw them bring her to the trauma room, than out in a body bag.

Usually, the police will issue an update if the victim dies. This has not happened in this case.

I find it very upsetting with this whole situation. A woman is struck by a truck going in the wrong way, she is pinned under the truck, airlifted and then seems to disappear off the face of the earth. No newspaper article, tv media, any updates. Rumor has it she is fine but she also died. Any information?
Stephen J. Bronner September 25, 2012 at 02:48 PM
I just called the police information line again, and no news is good news.
SL September 27, 2012 at 03:26 AM
I received confirmation from 2 different sources that she did NOT make it. Very sad!
