Woodmere FD Puts Out Garage Fire

Large fire under control within 20 minutes.

The took out a large garage fire on Allen Lane late Tuesday night.

The fire started sometime after 10 p.m. and was put under control within 20 minutes. The size of the building and the presence of vehicles in the garage added time to the operation, as firefighters had to make sure no pockets of fire remained in the structure, according to Woodmere Fire Department Chief Richard Jankosky

Firefighters’ main concern was the possible spread of fire to other nearby buildings, Jankosky said.

“This fire was visible from Broadway and Neptune Avenue,” he said.

The Inwood, Hewlett, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Meadowmere fire departments assisted with the blaze. The fire marshal was on the scene to investigate the cause.

No injuries were reported.
