Woodmere House Damaged by Fire

Multiple fire departments respond to blaze on Dartmouth Lane.

A fire ripped through a Woodmere home late Tuesday afternoon, leaving its garage destroyed and its first floor damaged.

No one was in the Dartmouth Lane house at the time of incident, according to fire officials. The homeowner had arrived when he saw the fire and called it in. He was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation and dehydration.

“There was a heavy fire load in the garage upon arrival, which ascended to the first floor,” said John Carlo, the second assistant chief of the .

The fire had started sometime around 4:50 p.m. and was extinguished around 5:34 p.m. by the Hewlett, ,, Meadowmere and Valley Stream fire departments. The East Rockaway and Lynbrook departments were standing by. A member of the Nassau County Fire Commissioner’s office and officers of the police department were also on the scene.

The fire marshal will investigate what caused the fire, Carlo said.
