Yeshiva Student Charged in Anti-Semitic Graffiti Incidents

A Yeshiva student from Queens responsible for a slew of anti-Semitic graffiti the plagued the Cedarhurst train station and disappointed the Five Towns community, according to Nassau County and MTA Police.

Jonathan Schuster, 18, of Far Rockaway, faces hate crime, criminal mischief, and graffiti charges after he scrawled offensive remarks on advertisements at the Cedarhurst Long Island Railroad station, cops said.

Police said Schuster used a black marker to write anti-Semitic remarks and expletives on eight separate occasions since December 2012.

Schuster was charged with eight counts of third-degree felony criminal mischief as a hate crime, eight counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and eight counts of making graffiti.

Tipsters from the area who called in to Nassau County Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Explorers helped lead authorities to arrest Schuster, who is a senior at Priority-1: Torah Academy of Lawrence-Cedarhurst, authorities stated.

11 total incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti have been reported since December 2012. MTA Police said they are still hunting the culprit responsible for the other incidents, including three at Lawrence LIRR station and one at Hewlett LIRR station.

“I’m proud of the successful joint efforts between the Nassau County Police Department and MTA to apprehend the person responsible for the many anti-Semitic crimes that occurred in the Five Towns,” said County Executive Ed Mangano.
