Volunteers wanted for planning and organizing of big event.

The Village of Atlantic Beach's 50th Anniversary Committee is looking for residents and businesses to buy ad space in a commemorative journal, its chair said at Monday night's trustees meeting.

In a letter to residents presented at the meeting, Chairwoman Susan Jaffe wrote, "We’ll be celebrating our wonderful village’s 50th with a fun-filled two-day event — starting on Wednesday, June 20, with a lovely dinner buffet dinner (with kosher meals available upon request) and continuing on Thursday, June 21, with an afternoon and evening of activities, food, entertainment, and fun for all ages."

She said the committee is seeking volunteers to help with planning and organizing events.

Atlantic Beach Mayor Stephen Mahler was happy to hear it and thanked Stillman. Mahler added that although he is pleased to hear that patrols have stepped up in Atlantic Beach, he hopes that the moving violations next month don’t go down again.

Public hearings

Trustees announced at Monday’s meeting that the village will hold a public hearing on March 12 regarding a new law that would make it illegal to park on unpaved surfaces.

Another public hearing will be held on the village's road improvement program. The project will take place on Albany Boulevard north and south of Park Street.
