Extension of Tax Deadline Granted for Hewlett, Lawrence School District Residents

Extension concerns the deadline by which school taxes must be paid in order avoid a penalty.

A tax deadline extension has been approved by the governor for several school districts, including Hewlett-Woodmere.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Receiver of Taxes Donald X. Clavin, Jr. had requested the extension for all school districts within the township, however the governor has signed an order that only includes districts which have independently requested an extension.

Accordingly, residents of the Hewlett-Woodmere School District may pay their school taxes, without penalty, until Dec. 4.

The Lawrence School District's request for an extension of 21 days for school taxes was granted on Monday, according to board president Dr. Asher Mansdorf.

Residents of all other districts in Hempstead Town must make their payments by not later than Tuesday, Nov. 13, to avoid incurring a penalty.

The extension is not needed by the 45 homeowners in Hewlett-Woodmere who get the "Clergy/Minister " exemption on their personal homes ( not religious institution property) under NYS Real Property Law 460. Their exemptions average $12,000. Thirty two pay NO SCHOOL TAXES. The law states the exemption should be $1500. Ask Don Clavin , and your state Representatives why they get unintended THOUSANDS more . You pay their taxes. for them. clergyexemption@gmail.com for more info

What Happened to Lawrence? It is my understanding that they also requested an extension.
