Free Legal Clinics for Sandy Victims

Nassau Bar Association attorneys continue to volunteer with post-Sandy legal issues.

Nassau County Bar Association attorneys continue to volunteer to help residents deal with the many complex legal issues involved in the aftermath of the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy.

NCBA President Marian Rice today announced that free legal consultation clinics have been scheduled for Monday, March 11, 3-6 p.m. and Monday, March 18, 3-6 p.m. at the NCBA on 15th Street at the corner of West Street in Mineola, three blocks south of the Mineola train station and bus depot.

Nassau residents dealing with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy can meet one-on-one with an attorney for free legal consultation, advice and referral information. In addition, representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the US Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on hand to assist residents.

Residents are asked to contact the Nassau County Bar at 516-747-4070 to schedule an appointment time to ensure an attorney will be available, and are encouraged to bring any significant documents, leases, insurance agreements or paperwork.

Attorneys fluent in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Haitian Creole, Urdu, or other languages will be made available upon request when registering. Walk-ins are welcome.

Attorneys and agency representatives will be able to help residents in the following areas:

  • Homeowner, flood, property damage and automobile insurance claims
  • FEMA assistance and grants
  • Debt deferral
  • Bankruptcy
  • Consumer Protection issues (contractors, etc.)
  • Landlord-Tenant issues
  • Assistance in dealing with lenders to avoid foreclosure
  • Legal assistance for health/disability/personal injury/post-traumatic stress issues
  • Small business issues

To date, NCBA has held 16 Sandy Recovery legal clinics including several in Long Beach, Freeport and East Rockaway, helping more than 750 people.
