Hewlett Bay Park Extends Permit for HALB

Highlights of the village board's Wednesday meeting.

The board of trustees of the Village of assembled for their first of the year on Wednesday evening at village hall. Here are highlights of the meeting:

  • The trustees voted to extend a temporary special use permit, set to expire in June 2011, to the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach for an existing classroom structure for an additional year. The permit pertains to a trailer on the property of the and that has been used for education. The property, including the field next door, was purchased in 1992. Enrollment has been flat since the downturn of the economy, a school representative attending the meeting said.

    Temporary structures are generally not allowed in the village, so the board keeps renewing the permit as a one-year, special-use extension. Additionally, the school may examine the installation of a speed bump outside the property entrance.
  • The board also renewed the application of a resident for five years regarding a special-use permit previously granted for a floating dock, designated as Section 42 Block L Lot 217 on the Nassau County Land and Tax map for the Village of Hewlett Bay Park.

After a public hearing, the trustees voted to pass a tentative budget for 2011-12. Salary increases for employees were tabled for a future meeting. No tax increase was indicated. A street lighting upgrade for the village was also discussed.
