Hewlett High School Student Visits Albany

Story courtesy Office of Harvey Weisenberg

A Hewlett High School traveled to Albany on April 16 to take part in the League of Women Voters of New York State's Annual Students Inside Albany Conference.

The conference is an opportunity for high school students to expand their knowledge about participation in government. Elected officials are asked to allow a student to “shadow” them for an afternoon in Albany while the legislature is in full session and other policy making activities are taking place.

Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg participated in the mentoring program by spending part of the afternoon with Joanne Conklin, a Long Beach High School junior, and Samantha Cohen, a Hewlett High School junior. Joanne and Samantha were chosen by the League of Women Voters to participate in this year’s conference.

“It is inspiring to be able to spend part of my day with students from my assembly district,” Weisenberg said. “Samantha and Joanne are bright young women, and it was a pleasure to meet them.”
