Hewlett Neck Officials to Meet With T-Mobile on Proposed Cell Tower

Village clerk says the company has yet to submit an application for the space at Keystone Yacht Club.

Hewlett Neck will soon meet with T-Mobile representatives to discuss the construction of a wireless cell tower at the , the board of trustees said at last Monday night’s meeting.

The announcement came as no surprise to residents in attendance of the meeting, as the village on wireless cell tower construction at its January meeting.

“They’re currently setting up a meeting with our building inspector and the village attorney,” Mayor Stuart Troyetsky said about T-Mobile.

“They haven’t even sent in an application,” added Village Clerk Marie Velotti.

The T-Mobile project at the Keystone Yacht Club was halted when Hewlett Neck suspended the option to construct towers, antennas and any other related wireless structures within the incorporated village. However, in January, trustees voted to adopt Local Law No. 1 of 2011, terminating the suspension within the village.

T-Mobile still has a few more hurdles to climb before the wireless tower can go up, Troyetsky said.

“We now have a code. They still have to show a lack of coverage and some environmental stuff,” he said. “There would probably have to be a public hearing.”

The proposed cell tower isn’t expected to generate a great deal of funding for the village coffers. “We’ll get a building fee and a special permit fee, that’s it,” the mayor said.

When asked if there was anything at this point residents could do to stop the wireless tower from going up, Troyetsky responded, “They haven’t even applied for a permit yet.”
