Hewlett Neck Validates Newest Appointments

Board of trustees give the go ahead to appointees for the next three years.

Hewlett Neck Trustees wasted no time confirming the latest village appointments at their meeting last Monday.

Appointees, announced individually by Mayor Stuart Troyetsky, were fairly recognizable to residents as the confirmations were mostly a renewal of terms, one or three years, depending on the title.

Among the one year appointments: deputy village clerk Janice Brennan; village clerk and member of the design review board and board of appeals Marie Velotti; board of appeals chairman Alan Sexter; board of appeals alternate member Enid Wallace; and roads commissioner Ross Epstein.

Three-year tenure is attached to both of the design review board members, Beth Marshel and Norman Basner, the latter of whom also serves a one-year term as chair.

In addition, Troyetsky set the lone five-year slot on the board of appeals to Ari Gatoff.

Also confirmed were building inspector Steve Declue; deputy building inspector William Dougherty; and village historian Bertram Kalisher. Carman-Dunne P.C. was selected as the village’s engineer, while Alliance Electrical Inspections, Ltd., Certified Electrical Inspections, Inc., Electrical Inspection Service Inc., Electrical Inspectors Inc. and Long Island Electrical Inspections, Ltd., were selected as the village’s electrical inspectors.

The issues of public safety, police activity, treasurer reports and the roads were dominated by talk of Hurricane Irene. The trustees noted that the village is still in the process of getting everything back to where it was before the storm, so a complete assessment of the damage is not yet available. Invoices related to Irene are still coming in, though no big surprises are expected.
