Highlights of Sanitary District 1 Meeting

spent $17,500 on repairs to the sanitation facility from March to December, the superintendent of its board, Phil Mistero, said at its monthly meeting on Wednesday.

Here is a breakdown of other topics discussed at the meeting:

  • Assistant Superintendent George Pappas spoke of the progress with the petroleum wholesaler group, Carbo Industries. Carbo is in the process of purchasing extra land and is waiting on applications from the Town of Hempstead to be approved. The extra land will provide for more of a district operation for truck usage and facilities.
  • In the general counsel's report, Nathaniel Swergold said that a conference with the court regarding waste management has a trial date set for June.
  • Dominick Minerva, issuing the Labor Counsel's report, said that the last meeting for union negotiations was on Dec. 16. No new date has been set up yet for further negotiations.
  • Pappas said the district is currently comparing two telephone emergency services in case of snow, Swift 911 and ArkTel Communications. "We are trying to set up an email blast to the community to give notification of impending snow. It would definitely make life easier," Pappas said.
