LIRR westbound schedules will be adjusted this weekend as the agency renews the railroad crossing at West Broadway in Hewlett.
Beginning at 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, and ending at 12:42 a.m. on Monday, April 8, Far Rockaway commuters will have to board trains about 30 minutes earlier than normal and arrive at their destination about 30 minutes earlier.
The renewal work includes replacing the rubber crossing pads with longer lasting and smoother concrete crossing materials as well as rebuilding the track bed, according to the LIRR. The wood track ties will also be replaced with longer-lasting concrete track ties in the crossing area.
The railroad said that the work “will be completed well in advance of Monday’s AM peak and train service will be normal for the morning rush.”
Special April 6-8 Far Rockaway Branch timetables titled, “Westbound Crossing Renewal Trackwork Schedule,” detailing the revised train arrivals and departures are available at branch stations and on the MTA website at http://mta.info/lirr/Timetable/
Customers can also contact the LIRR's Travel Information Center by calling 511, the New York State Travel Information Line, and say “Long Island Rail Road.” Those deaf or hard of hearing can use their preferred relay service provider for the free 711 relay to reach LIRR at 511.
