Obama, Romney Campaigns Concerned About Candy Crowley

Both camps question how the debate moderator has publicly described her role.

The day before the presidential debate descends upon Hofstra University, both campaigns are calling the debate moderator's role into question, according to TIME.

Mark Halperin writes:

While an early October memorandum of understanding between the Obama and Romney campaigns suggests CNN’s Candy Crowley would play a limited role in the Tuesday-night session, Crowley, who is not a party to that agreement, has done a series of interviews on her network in which she has suggested she will assume a broader set of responsibilities. As Crowley put it last week, “Once the table is kind of set by the town-hall questioner, there is then time for me to say, ‘Hey, wait a second, what about X, Y, Z?’”

The debate at Hofstra differs from the other three in that questions will be driven by audience members, not the moderator.

According to the town-hall format language in the agreement, after each audience question and both two-minute responses from the candidates, Obama and Romney are expected to have an additional discussion facilitated by Crowley.

The town-hall debate is planned for Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Hofstra University in Hempstead.

As long as President Obama won't be allowed to use a teleprompter I don't think Governor Romney will have a problem.

RR are going to win, and they will take it comfortably past the margin of fraud -- +4% at least. You read it here first.

There's no comfort or margin in fraud, not that repugnicans won't try it again.

Romney leads swing state voters 51% to 46% in today's USA Today Poll. It is VERY close.

You mean "Gov. Romney - What's the meaning of life ??" LIAR !!! Be good, we'll see.
Jaguar-Guy October 15, 2012 at 09:20 pm
Tough to be non-partisan when the day they announced Ryan on the ticket, she said "they're dead". She might be right, she might be wrong - but that is NOT the moderator we want - and we've seen two awful ones thus far.
Jaguar-Guy October 15, 2012 at 09:22 pm
Obama - How's your golf game and how's Beyonce ??
Romney - Please explain the meaning of life - you have 2 minutes - GO !!!

From an interview I saw with her on Sunday she said she will pick the questions ahead of time that will bring the most clarity to the issues as well as shed light on issues not formerly discussed. The people that asked the questions will be in the audience. I just think considering it is on a college campus giving someone control over which questions get answered is a bit much. I liked the Lehrer debate, He let them discuss the issues. The VP debate many times seemed like a 2 on 1 gangbang against Ryan and Martha did little to stop Biden smiletrain from interrupting. If Candy decides to do her followup questions primarily with Ryan, we will know her bias'. She made it pretty clear the day Ryan was selected.
GM October 16, 2012 at 02:41 am
She said she would wipe that smug patrician smile right off Romneys face. I guess it's the liberal media or the supreme court that will decide our Presidents.
localgal October 16, 2012 at 11:12 am
Oh you mean like how the repubs complained about Martha Kadatz?
localgal October 16, 2012 at 11:15 am
Can you provide a link to where Crowley said that?
christie nicolle October 16, 2012 at 04:40 pm
why is Candy throwing her 'weight' around?? please, why not Monica Crowley instead! It's obvious the parade of brainwashed lefty kooks will be ready to Mitt with inappropriate stupid questions, nothing new!
Jaguar-Guy October 16, 2012 at 07:13 pm
I wrote "it is very close" (ie. within the margin of error). And no, polls mean nothing.

Where do people get this idea of President Obama not being a good orator??? I mean the guy graduated FIRST in his class at Harvard Law School. A poor black guy from a broken family. This doesn't happen to any old shmuck.
People bewilder me.
Cire M October 16, 2012 at 08:38 pm
I think Candy Crowley will be fair but I'd prefer Mr. Crowley, it's symbolic of course.
GM October 16, 2012 at 08:43 pm
I was poking fun at all these folks that believe the moderator of a debate will determine our next President. Typically these guys don't stay on point and answer the questions that are asked.
christie nicolle October 17, 2012 at 05:38 pm
well, Candy made an ass of herself last night as i predicted! Please no more of her...how about the great Monica Crowley or even Maureen Crowley whose got the "goods" on Obama?? She was interviewed last Sunday on Bob Grant's radio broadcast + holy cow, what info she uncovered on Barry!!!

It's all a Legislative Charade. Lipa was overloaded with Debt from the Shoreham Debacle that ourRead More Legistlators got us into by canceling the Shoreham plant. Electricity? Just Put up another Windmill. The reality is that we face more Blackouts and Danger. Lipa still owes Billions from Shoreham and therefore Cannot afford to Invest in Infrastructure. Why Doesn't Nassau County take over the Debt so that all Taxpayers are responsible and it doesn't hang solely over the Ratepayers?
