Polls will be open on Tuesday, Sept. 17, for residents of South Lynbrook and Hewlett to vote on a proposed library contract and budget.
The current contract with the Lynbrook Public Library expires on Dec. 31. and New York State Law requires that a special election be held to consider a new contract and budget, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray said in a release.
The five-year contract and budget with the Lynbrook Library would cost $90,070 in the first year, and would be increased annually, according to Town of Hempstead officials. A one-time estimated election expense of $1,500 will also be added to the district's budget.
Voting will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at Lynbrook South Middle School, located at 333 Union Ave. Only residents who are registered to vote with the Board of Elections and who live in the South Lynbrook - Hewlett Library District will be eligible to vote.
Absentee ballots are available from the Office of the Town Attorney by contacting Deputy Town Attorney Eugene Ferencik at (516) 489-5000, extension 3202.
