Village of Hewlett Neck Notebook: Cell Tower, Wire Repairs and Crime Report

The Village of Hewlett Neck trustees discuss issues at monthly meeting.

Several residents came to show their opposition to to build a cell phone tower in the community at the board of trustees' meeting this past Monday, however, the mayor informed them that the development has been placed on the back burner since the company’s merger with AT&T.

Mayor Stuart Troyetsky said that there is nothing official on the books since the application was submitted while T-Mobile was under prior management, and reassured concerned townspeople that the issue may concequently disappear.

“We are very much keeping our eye on it, but they have a lot of homework to do,” Troyetsky said.

Hewlett Neck's board of trustees is seeking a second opinion and more affordable solution to replace damaged street light wiring between Adams Lane and Dolphin Drive.

The trustees are currently deciding to either purchase wire at $11 per foot from Island Cable Co. and hiring Ankers Electric to install the replacement wire for $95 an hour (totaling at an estimated $4,950), or seeking a second opinion.

“Even though this wire will outlast us all and then some, I wish people were knocking down doors to do this,” Troyetsky said.

Crime Report

The month of April proved to be completely uneventful for the Fourth Precinct in Hewlett Neck.

While Sgt. James Plate was sent to share April’s crime report with the board, there was simply nothing on the books.

“There was no crime, no speeding tickets; no nothing,” Plate said.
