Weisenberg Set to Win 12th Assembly Term

Long Beach Democrat has strong lead in preliminary election results against Dr. David Sussman.

Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg defeated a spirited challenge from Lawrence School Board Member Dr. David Sussman Tuesday night, according to preliminary election results.

As of 1 a.m., with 96.4 percent of precincts reporting, Weisenberg earned a 12th term as the 20th district’s representative in Albany with 17,602 votes, or 55 percent of the vote, to Sussman’s 14,442 votes, or 45 percent.

Sussman, a 17-year member of the Lawrence School Board, had accused Weisenberg of becoming too complacent with Albany’s unfair tax distribution to Long Island. Weisenberg ran on his 20 plus years of experience and leadership of the Long Island coalition.
