Twenty-two residents of one block in Woodmere are owed refunds for overpaid property taxes from Nassau County, according to Newsday [paid link], with the highest refund totaling $3,549.
The article says that one in every three homes along a four-block stretch are owed refunds ranging from $133 to more than $3,500.
"What happens is the professionals who are handling this contact you if your neighbor or somebody up the block is getting [a refund] and say that you could get one also," Harold Herman, who is owed the highest refund on Fordham Lane, told Newsday.
At least six different firms are handling tax refunds for residents of Fordham Lane.
Additionally, a county-high refund of $27,074 is due one Hewlett homeowner.
